Scott's problem for Proper Scott sets

چکیده

Some 40 years ago, Dana Scott proved that every countable Scott set is the standard system of a model of PA. Two decades later, Knight and Nadel extended his result to Scott sets of size ω1. Here, I show that assuming the Proper Forcing Axiom (PFA), every proper Scott set is the standard system of a model of PA. I define that a Scott set X is proper if it is arithmetically closed and the quotient Boolean algebra X/Fin is a proper partial order. I also investigate the question of the existence of proper Scott sets.

A kind of fuzzy upper topology on L-preordered sets

Considering a commutative unital quantale L as the truth value table and using the tool of L-generalized convergence structures of stratified L-filters, this paper introduces a kind of fuzzy upper topology, called fuzzy S-upper topology, on L-preordered sets. It is shown that every fuzzy join-preserving L-subset is open in this topology. When L is a complete Heyting algebra, for every completel...

I-Categories as a Framework for Solving Domain Equations

An abstract notion of category of information systems or I-category is introduced as a generalisation of Scott's well-known category of information systems. As in the theory of partial orders, I-categories can be complete or !-algebraic, and it is shown that !-algebraic I-categories can be obtained from a certain completion of countable I-categories. The proposed axioms for a complete I-categor...

The role of scurvy in Scott's return from the South Pole.

Scurvy, caused by lack of vitamin C, was a major problem for polar explorers. It may have contributed to the general ill-health of the members of Scott's polar party in 1912 but their deaths are more likely to have been caused by a combination of frostbite, malnutrition and hypothermia. Some have argued that Oates's war wound in particular suffered dehiscence caused by a lack of vitamin C, but ...
